I could approach the P series as 5 separate reviews, but I think it is more useful to look at the as a group. The P series stoves really have more in common than they do have differences. Harman pellet stoves function in some fundamentally different ways than just about any other pellet stove on the market. I am of the opinion that Harman makes the best pellet stove on the market, and the P series represents the best of Harman pellet stoves.
This review will hopefully explain how I arrived at that conclusion.

Connecting a Wood Stove to a Solar Water Heater using a wetback or water jacket Solar hot water and wood heaters make a perfect combination. However, in the colder months solar hot water systems need boosting, and this is the time of year when households with wood heaters will be using them to keep warm. Why not use some of the heat going up the flue to heat the water? This means that the input of heat from the firebox to the hot water storage tank cannot be easily and quickly switched on or off; wetbacks will just keep on adding heat whilst the fire is going.
We recommend that you never cut off the water flow to the wetback, as this can cause a potentially explosive build-up of steam! Running the fire with an empty wetback can cause it to burn out very quickly, reducing its lifespan. There are two options for dealing with this safely. Both options require the hot water storage tank to be located above the wood heater and sufficiently high so as to ensure the wetback always has water in it. The systems thermosiphon heat transfer must not be impeded by any constrictions.
As the water heats up, it is critical that the flow of hot water up to the storage tank and the return of cooler water back down to the wetback is not impeded. These systems either rely on gravity feed to supply the hot water to the house or they have their own internal heat exchanger coil inside the tank, with the water inside the heat exchanger supplying the house at mains pressure.

Nov 25, · Hey guys I just picked up a woodchuck hot air wood furnace. This is the first “wood furnace” I’ve had but I’ve had wood stoves so wood is nothing new.
So, I have started the install and it is going pretty well. I had to make a few changes from what I thought and would have preferred, but overall its not too bad. So, I put the stove on the other side to use the other corner of the closet. The chimney installation itself has been fairly easy, if you are the DIY type and take on home projects you can feel pretty secure you can do it.
The next 3 days are supposed to be sunny and clear, so this may be my opportunity. While I anticipate the chimney being done with little additional work, the ducting for the wood furnace has been pretty hard. First off, there is very little information that can help the lay man in determining how to size the duct work. Another obstacle in the duct work to the normal homeowner is the selection of fittings at the local hardware store.
Menards was decent, they at least had the basics, but the round duct work can be a huge limiting factor with what you can do. By far the best would be rectangular and putting on the take-offs manually. But, that looked like a huge pain, so I just made do. What does this mean? I may re-do this later, but I at least wanted to get it started now.

You have a link proving you can’t have a cold air return in the same room as a woodstove? I find that hard to believe, considering the fact that many people have their woodstoves in their living room, and they also have a cold air return in their living rooms. Also, what about open concept houses, how is a room defined? It’s also common sense. Now, I do think if I looked even further, there might be a distance you must be from the fireplace or wood stove, but it’s best not to have a return air inlet near your solid-fuel burning appliance – ever.
A wood stove may be one of the most important preps for the winter, especially for us northern preppers. Whether or not a wood stove is your primary or backup source of heat, it’s simplicity and readily available fuel source makes it a no-brainer for preppers in a colder climate.
Jul 17, , What it’s basically saying is that you will have two stats, one for propane and one for the boiler and a two stage stat would probably be the best way to go. In this case the boiler can supplement propane, because both can be on at the same time. But based on what the boiler Co wants you to do is to is to have two stats. One for the boiler and one for the propane.
So, lets’ explore this a bit. The limit switch has Nothing to do with what goes on. What the limit switch does is turn on the fan when the gas is hot enough and turn it off a bit later to increase efficiency.

Share Tweet The other day I was sweeping up all of the wood chips and debris that have fallen on the living room floor near the wood stove that sits in our fireplace, and I thought to myself all of the reasons why an outdoor water stove would be so much nicer for heating our home. There are definitely things that I love about having a wood stove in the house that I would surely miss if we had an outdoor water stove.
Like the smell of wood burning. And cooking over the hot cast iron stove. But it would definitely be much cleaner to keep the wood burning mess out of the house. Nothing beats the smell of wood burning in your home on a cold winter day.

You need good clearance around the stove to prevent accident fires from the radiant heat generated. Since its a used stove, you can check online and compare sizes and there should be an installation guide that will help you with the clearances. As for your chimney, looks like you are going to first need the transition piece from the stove to the chimney pipe, looks like its on oval take off from the stove. If you also check online you can find pricing for other piping too, double and triple wall, if you decide to go that way.
They make a Thimble for this that keeps the heat transmission from charring the wood. Since you are in Dallas there should be any number of fireplace retailers that can help you get the parts you need to have a SAFE installation. One last safety tip on this, buy a good quality fire extinguisher and keep it maintained and in a very accessible location.
Keep the chimney clean every year, when you are burning shop scraps you can build up a good layer of creosote on the piping, so check every year before you start the heating season.

The sheet covers stoves with cast housing, as well as machined pictures and explanation included.. It mixes well with the cool air from down low with no excessive concentration of super hot air in just one area. What are these three buttons at the bottom of my pellet stoves control board? How do I replace the exhaust combustion blower on my stove?
Many people insert a stove pipe in an existing chimney to handle the “new wood stove” but in your case the chimney is being used by the furnace. So, I would not recommend your sharing the chimney with the new wood stove and with the existing furnace.
If you’re among the thousands who have succumbed to the lure of the wood burning stove, keep in mind that the return to the “good old days” of wood stove heating can have some old-fashioned drawbacks. Fire hazard is one of them. The resurgence of the wood burner as a supplementary source of heat has led to an alarming—and growing—number of fires traceable to careless installation or misuse. The purpose of this pamphlet is to help bridge a generation gap in wood stove knowledge by providing some basic information on the selection, installation, use and maintenance of solid fuel heating equipment.
Here are some principal do’s and don’ts: DO—make sure there is enough clearance between the stove and combustible materials, including floors, walls and ceilings. DO—place the stove on a noncombustible, fire resistant base. DO—have a mason or other competent person inspect the chimney. DO—burn only dry, well-seasoned wood. DO—consider opening a window a crack for ventilation. DO—dispose of ashes in a closed metal container outside the house. Selecting a stove Be sure your stove is made of sturdy, suitable material, such as cast iron or steel.
Look for stoves listed by Underwriters Laboratories UL or other recognized testing laboratories.

Did this video help you? Badass it looks good to. Have to get the automatic bimetallic dampener door. I got one and it was the best thing I ever did. Has anyone mounted a blower on the rear of their hotblast where the large pipe plug is? We bought an old house in Ohio this summer. We are burning coal and wood in it I’m not sure what type of coal it is Everything went well for the first days. Then yesterday, smoke started backing up in to the house any time we opened the door to stoke the fire.
Took us 2 hours to air out the whole house. What did I do wrong? I’ve done a lot of research online and I’m following all the “pros” recommendations. Should I just burn the coal exclusively? We’re down to wind chill temps here today and I do NOT want to keep running this heat pump.

The door must be well insulated. An example of a poorly insulated door would be one that has an inner water-jacket door with a very thin outer door or one that is altogether poorly insulated. This will cause severe heat loss. Simply stated, this means more fire wood for less heat. This is covered by a fireproof rope that makes an air tight seal. Silicone or rubber gaskets melt or become deformed due to the heat and eventually break down.
