Thanks for making these videos Dr. Sorry thats not calibrated at all. Dr Z now connect the gage to a bottle of R22 with a accurate thermometer attached to the bottle and see for yourself how much the gauge is now out. Who cares where the zero point is. We need it calibrated to the correct pressure. I enjoy your vids Dr.

Co-founder Bryan Orr explains how you can understand, check and set refrigerant charge. Make sure to sound off in the comments or leave us a V oicemail. If you do, you might end up on our Podcast! So depending on the type of refrigerant that you have, depending on the temperature conditions, depending on the pressure, all those things affect the ways, one affects the other.
Screw cap valve manifold systems are absolutely vacuum manifold using a simple hook-up without plumbing. Blue gauge set it should be used to the vacuum advance. Ever since day 1, and is capable of a smoother idle and hose of the vacuum dash.
I found a great article on honda-tech I followed it to a “T” and the system worked awesome all summer long.. Here is the link if you want to check it out. First things first though.. Go buy one, or borrow one.. Do NOT charge your system with the gauge on the can you can get. This is going to be the all knowing, famous referrance for repair. And I will do my best to answer or direct you to the answer. On with the article

Now that I think of it I tried purchasing a recharge kit for my truck , but they cancelled it when they saw I lived in California. Thank-you , Jerry Brown! For example, it is permitted to sell small quantities of a to the unlicensed general public. The second paragraph “Refrigerant Sales Restrictions” in the Section summary states: No supply house I have used sells a 30lb bottle of HFC to someone unlicensed. If refrigerant changes ownership, it must be reclaimed i.
Air conditioning and heat pump testing and repair using a pressure gauge: Recommendations for refrigeration gas pressure measurement using a test gauge set Proper Use of the Refrigeration Charging / Testing Gauge Set to Keep Moisture & Dirt out of an Air Conditioner, Heat Pump, Refrigerator, Freezer, etc. How to hook up a refrigerant test / charging gauge set to the test ports – Attaching the.
These are some general HVAC service techniques I’ve picked up over the years, and I’ve written this page hoping these tips will help technicians who are just starting out in our trade. If you’re looking for a more detailed, step by step troubleshooting guide, you might want to take a look at some of the other pages on the site. Start out by getting focused. I think almost everyone would agree that sharp, clear mental focus improves HVAC service and troubleshooting efficiency, and I think that the types of questions you ask yourself while troubleshooting can affect your mental focus.
Open ended questions like “Why isn’t this thing running? They’re too general, and allow open-ended and un-focused answers like “Something’s broken.

For this reason the consumer should use the most competent service and maintenance personnel available. Overcharging and undercharging are common conditions and waste significant amounts of energy. A license issued by the EPA is required to purchase or handle most refrigerants. However anyone can ballpark the refrigerant charge. You will need a digital thermometer and some tubing insulation.
The gauges used with a refrigeration gauge manifold are either analog (indicator needle), which resemble other pressure gauges, or digital. In an analog gauge, the position of the needle in relation to the numbers on the gauge face indicates the pressure or vacuum in the refrigeration system.
You need to understand the customer’s complaint. Visual Inspection You can see signs of most leaks if you look very careful. Refrigerant oil leaks out with the refrigerant and leaves an oily film that collects dust leaving a build up of dirt. Compressor seal leak Look at the compressor clutch and surrounding area for signs of oil and dirt. The clutch will sling oil if there is a leak.
Refrigerant Hose Leak Look at the hoses for oily spots. Evaporator Drain Oily We try to look at or fell for the evaporator drain. Look at the area right below the drain and touch the drain hole. Any Other Obvious Leaks Look around at the other components for oily spots and a build up of dust, as on the condenser. We will sometimes remove the blower resistor in order to see the evaporator core. Fan Clutch Normal Look at the front of the engine fan clutch.

A thorough evacuation is necessary after servicing or replacing system components or when converting to Freeze 12, R a, or any other refrigerant. It simply shows the steps required to draw a vacuum on the system to remove moisture and other contaminants and charge the system with oil and the refrigerant of your choice. The necessity of properly capturing any refrigerant already in the system must be noted.
CAUTION: Always connect hoses to the manifold gauge set and Ra couplers before connecting Ra couplers to the Ra service ports on the A/C system to prevent refrigerant from escaping from open fittings and to prevent any from entering an evacuated system.
Air Conditioning Troubleshooting Important Note: Always wear safety glasses when working with refrigerants. Attach your Manifold Gauges to the high and low pressure fittings respectively, attach the fill hose to your reclaiming equipment. Turn on the reclaimer, and slowly open the low and high side valves. The system is empty when the reclaimer does not cycle for 10 minutes. After discharging the system, you should measure any oil that was removed from the system and replace with the same amount.
Flushing an AC system involves using a flushing agent such as R , being blown through the system under pressure. The orifice tube should be replaced whenever any debris is found in the system. Completely reclaim all the refrigerant from the system. Disconnect the refrigerant lines.

Air Conditioning Vacuum Pump Every time you use your air conditioning vacuum pump, do yourself a favor and change the oil. I mention this first off because I’ve known a lot of technicians who don’t change vacuum pump oil until it turns a dark color. The frame of mind seems to be “Never mind what the owner’s manual says, it’s still pulling down to 29 Hg, so why change the oil?
If you have a good set of gauges that aren’t leaking, you can use them with your air conditioning vacuum pump to evacuate systems that are 5 tons and smaller.
Oct 02, · A closeup of a typical a/c manifold gauge set. The blue hoses, gauge, and valve knob represents the low pressure side of the air conditioning system, and red ones represent the high pressure side. The yellow hose in the center is designed for recharging the system with canned refrigerant or evacuating the : Michael Grayen.
Can’t fix your car problem on your own? Ask a live mechanic! Car Air-conditioning Compressor I get a lot of questions about car air conditioning systems not blowing cold enough. Especially during hot humid summer days. Most people would like to see frigid cold air blasting from their small dash vents instantly upon request. So lets get that cold air back. Remember, when your cars bake in the sun, for even a short time, the heat stores up in large quantities.
You must remove this before it starts to feel cool inside.

Testo Digital Gauges Review: I’ve been a fan and supporter of Testo products for a long time. I purchased my first set of digital gauges about years back, the 2nd generation Testo I had some issue with those but I enjoyed the setup and accuracy. So, when Testo introduced the series – I was very excited. I purchased the about 2 years ago.
The HVAC gauges and AC hoses are color coded. The high pressure gauge is mounted on the right side of the manifold set. This air conditioning gauges set measure pressure above the atmosphere pressure. It reads from 0 to psi and it scales is usually in 2-lb. or 5-lb. increments.
If the coolant level is low, this may indicate that air is trapped in the heater core. Smooth coolant flow through the heater core is critical for heat output. Also, check coolant concentration. A higher percentage mixture more than 50 percent will decrease heater performance. Fans and blowers move fresh or recirculated air across the evaporator fins and heater core to provide heated air for the climate control system.
An operational test will help you verify that all HVAC system controls and modes are operating correctly. However, knowing what the gauges say can be troublesome for some technicians. So we will take a look at pressure diagnosis, but we need to start by reviewing refrigerant and how to determine if it may be the cause of the concern. Review of Refrigerant Refrigerants are the vital working fluids in refrigeration systems. They transfer heat from one place to another.
Heat is absorbed into the refrigerant by evaporation and released through condensation.

This way you’re covered for everything but automotive. Now as far as the gauges go, having 4 sets is the way to go. I don’t mix refrigerants with different oils with any equipment. Separate gauge sets, separate recovery machines, tanks, etc. So that means 2 sets, 1 for R22 and another set for R A. You can get by with a 2-valve manifold and add adapters to add ports for the charging hose, vacuum hose, etc.
Jul 30, · AOP Residential HVAC; How to hook up micron gauge? Cookie Consent On the high side I just hook the high side manifold hose. I then hook the common port to my pump. and vac gauge hook up all mounted too. I have ball valves and quick connects too. I’ll have to post a pic sometime. It’s a heavy set-up but everything is right there and handy.
Did this video help you? I always wondered what happened to Gommer Pyle. We did this in college today. Don’t forget to purge the line in the beginning. Thanks for the video. When the unit shut off, what was making the hissing noise? Was there a leak somewhere? Do not feed that atmosphere into the system. I accidentally connected the low side of my gauges to the liquid line on an R machine today.
Whats New Becks Tips , boiler skimming , steam boilers , U. Boiler machub Skimming a steam boiler is the process of removing any oil from the water volume. For years, we never did proper near boiler piping, even though we thought we were.
When you are working as a heating, ventilation and air conditioning service technician, also known as an HVAC technician, your set of gauges is one of your biggest assets. Gauges are used to read the pressure of various liquids and gases in a cooling system, as well as vacuum pressure when you are pressure testing or charging the device.
We are a team of ASE certified mechanics that have created this guide so you can save money and do the job right. Let’s jump right in! Before you begin its good idea to see how the system works. If you don’t vacuum the system the AC will not be as cold because of the normal air which is trapped inside. Many manufactures recommend the system be vacuumed down each time you service the system to remove residual moisture which helps the compressor last longer.
Watch the video below to see how the job is done and then continue reading for tips and information which is updated regularly.
