Wiring is a little bit tricky on these. Here’s what I’d do First of all, don’t run both subs off of the RMX in bridge mode. That will bring the impedance down to 2 ohms, and the amp isn’t happy with anything below 4 ohms when bridged. You can run each amp off of one channel of the in stereo mode, but they could take a lot more juice than that. The subs are rated at w continuous, w peak at 4 ohms. The will be giving them w each. In a perfect world, you’d have two RMX s, each powering one sub. With the gear you’ve currently got, you may have to settle for w and be very careful not to allow the system to clip or risk damage to the speakers.

Monday, October 30, – It’s something that is commonplace with Velodyne’s subs and can be found in Polk’s higher end subs like the PSW of course, we also utilize an amp with this feature. I could be wrong, but I don’t think this would overload the sub’s input. Oddly enough, this isn’t true.
Dec 01, · There are also 2 ways to hook them up, not all having the ability to do both. This particular active powered subwoofer has both and I will show you how to hook it up.
Car Audio Black Friday Sales! Even though speakers are active loads resistance changes with frequency , it is accepted to treat speakers as resistors with a fixed resistance value usually 4 ohms. By combining speakers in different ways, maximum amplifier output can be obtained. For example if a 2-channel amplifier is rated to deliver a maximum output of watts at 2 ohms mono bridged , then by hooking up two 4 ohm subwoofers in parallel, a total load of 2 ohms is “seen” by the amplifier, obtaining optimum power.
Parallel Resistance People commonly hook up two or more speakers to the same channel out of an amplifier in parallel. This is achieved by hooking up the negative wire from the amp to all the negative connections of the speakers, and the positive to all the positive connections of the speakers. By doing this, the load seen by the amplifier is lower. For example, if two 4-ohm speakers are wired-up in parallel, then their total resistance will be half, or 2 ohms.
If three speakers are wired up in parallel, and they all have the same resistance value, then the total load would be a third of the value of each speaker’s resistance.
More advanced home theater folks may wish to peruse our more in-depth guides available on the site that give a more thorough explanation of this complex and often misunderstood topic. Setting speaker size and the crossover point to best match your home theater system. This channel contains low frequency bass info not found on any of the other channels.
The “.1” is the subwoofer.) While the center speaker provides crystal clear dialog, the front satellites deliver a deep, rich tapestry of music and sound effects. The rear satellites add the depth and reality of environmental ambient sound.
Speaker Connections for proper impedance match A note about amplifiers: You should always use the recommended load for your amplifier. However, if you must use a load other than the recommended load, here is a short guide. Most solid-state amplifiers would rather look at an open circuit no speaker at all than a load.
Therefore, you can usually use a load that is higher than the recommended load. Do not use a lower impedance load, as this could cause serious damage to your SS amp. On the other hand, most tube amplifiers need a load to avoid transformer or tube socket damage. If a mismatch can not be avoided on a tube amp, it is better to go towards a lower impedance rather than too high of a speaker impedance.
This may stress the tubes some, but, tubes are cheaper than transformers. As the graphic shows, you connect the positive wire to speaker A’s positive terminal, connect a wire from speaker A’s negative terminal to speaker B’s positive wire, and then connect the negative wire to the negative terminal of speaker B. You could continue this string for as many speakers that you have available, however, it may not be very practical.

Bringing new JBL speakers and a subwoofer into your home theater setup may seem complex when you look at the back of the stereo receiver. However with the right instruction and the right speaker cables, incorporating JBL’s pristine sound quality into your home theater experience is surprisingly straightforward. Position your JBL speakers and subwoofer in the desired locations see Tips.
Run the speaker wire along the length of the wall from the subwoofer and speakers to the stereo receiver. Determine the amount of speaker wire that you will need to make the connection.
The company’s Cinema ProPack home-theater system backs up pint-sized satellites with an extrapotent subwoofer. JBL bulks up on the electronics end, too, with a full-sized, full-featured A/V.
Using the table saw to cut the MDF. Drawing the hole for the sub. Used a drill bit, cardboard and pencil. Started the main hole using a whole saw and then moved to a saber saw to complete. Finished off with sander. Progress of the enclosure. Completed custom sub enclosure with sub installed. Nothing fancy but it does the job. It is painted with Rustoleum truck bed liner. Chose to place the fuse for the amp in the engine compartment fuse box.
Drilled two small holes and used grommets to seal it up with the wire. These were the two locations that made sense that i could get a drill to without removing the fuse box and wireclips. Close up of the fuse siting in the fuse box Chose to put the LOC in the space under the cup holders. Had to drill a hole in the side where the storage space is to feed all the wires through.
Sources Why you should trust me I wrote my first review of a subwoofer in ; since then, I have, to the best of my knowledge, reviewed more home audio subwoofers than anyone in the world. In my work for the above publications, I have conducted at least seven multiple-listener subwoofer comparison tests, so I have not only my own impressions to guide me, but also the impressions of other listeners, too. This page on my website provides a more extensive list of my audio credentials.
I play occasional gigs and attend workshops and weekly jam sessions, and I have heard many drummers and other bass players at close range, so I have a solid familiarity with what bass is supposed to sound like in music. A subwoofer is a speaker specifically designed to reproduce bass the deep sounds like the low notes on a pipe organ. You add it to an existing set of usually small speakers to give your system more bass and, potentially, a higher maximum volume.
A friend of mine called me said he found the sub at a yard sale for practically nothing and brought it to me and I hooked it up with existing stereo consisting of two sony 10 inch subwoofers I let the jbl stand by it self and since then this the only sub I use and it sounds tighter and clean and /5(38).
Share on Facebook JBL is a popular name in audio systems, and they are known for their wide array of subwoofers and speakers. These are used in various audio, video and home theater systems and they provide quality sound with corresponding effects that enhance their owners’ listening pleasure. However, subwoofers by JBL do have flaws and problems that have to be understood and resolved once they occur. Subwoofers enhance the bass sounds of the audio played through them.
Problems According to various customer complaints on audioreview. They also begin to provide loose sound effects, such as missing bass, through regular use. Their “auto on” feature also loses its function through regular use. Causes JBL subwoofers carry certain design flaws that begin to become noticeable after two years of regular use, customers say. Two of these flaws–the failure of the “auto on” feature to work normally and the use of low-end materials for the subwoofer cabinet–are said to cause the quality of sound produced by the subwoofers to deteriorate over time.
When used to produce extremely loud audio, the contacts also have the tendency to burn due to the lack of proper insulation, cooling and dampening materials used on the subwoofers. Video of the Day Lifespan A lot of customers as well as audio technicians have noticed that JBL subwoofers have an average lifespan of two years, the same timeframe given by their warranty.
It is quite common to experience problems with the subwoofers a few months after the warranty has expired, prompting owners to pay for repair and replacement services.

Every time I fire up my surround sound system and the subwoofer gets a signal, it makes this awful sound grrrrrippp. It runs fine after that initial problem, but it is so annoying. I’ve switched the phase setting as well as the crossover frequency without any change to the problem. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks for any ideas.
The sub is in standby when not receiving a signal for a while. When it senses a signal, it turns on an the noise you hear is similar to what you’d hear if you attached a speaker to an amplifier while active.
Huge sub and long soundbar Not the best for music No mid or treble controls One area where soundbars traditionally struggle with is bass. Having a compact speaker bar makes it difficult to have as much bass as if you were using a stand-alone subwoofer. Instead, the SB comes with a huge 8-inch mm sub that pumps out enough bass to shake your entire house. After spending a week with the JBL SB soundbar, we were left impressed with its sound quality, ease of use and flexibility.
I’m trying to find some information on this sub. I am only finding limited stuff about it. Does anyone here own this sub and can give me some.
The company’s Cinema ProPack home-theater system backs up pint-sized satellites with an extrapotent subwoofer. Grab your tape measure Those components consume a significant amount of shelf space: Stacked on top of each other, they stand almost a foot tall, and you’ll need to add at least another 3- or 4-inch clearance for ventilation if you stash them in a cabinet. The five speakers, on the other hand, are as space-efficient as they come: People who don’t want big speaker boxes cluttering their living rooms will like these.
The brawny pound subwoofer, on the other hand, is a monster by HTIB standards: But it’s still easy to hide in a corner or under a table. Similarly, you can upgrade each piece of your home theater slowly.
